ATTENDENCE LINE PROCEDURES
In February 1998, the governor signed legislation requiring schools to attempt to verify all student absences. Under the new law, each day a student is absent, the parent MUST contact the school or the school contacts the parent. To reduce the amount of secretarial time and eliminate the need to disrupt parents at home or work to verify an absence, we have created the following process:
If you know in advance your child will be absent/late to school:
As soon as you know the absence or late arrival will occur, send
a note you have signed indicating your child's name, teacher/grade,
reason for the absence (or late arrival) and the date (or time)
of expected return.
On the first day of your child's absence:
Call the "Attendance Line" answering machine (24 hours
a day) at 229-4241. Leave the name and teacher/grade of your child,
the reason for the absence, and the day you expect your child
to return. If your child does not return to school on or before
the day that you have indicated, you will need to REPEAT the above
procedure.
If you do not send a note in advance or call the attendance
line:
The school will attempt to contact you by phone to verify that
fact that your child is not at school. Secretarial staff will
attempt to contact you at home or work. They may also attempt
to call emergency contact numbers. Our goal is to communicate
effectively and provide for a safe environment for the students.
We appreciate your cooperation in following this procedure.
