Working hard on one of our "famous" birdhouses

Welcome to the News page!

We are busier than ever in the Honeoye Central CORAL Program in 2011-12. Our Middle School students have been working very hard in areas of Science, Math, and Language Arts. Highlights include animal research projects utilizing iPad technology, and a forthcoming novel - "Winn Dixie". In Math, we are using a new program entitled "PinPoint Math" whereby students learn an alternative way to learn and utilize math skills. In Science, we completed a unit on electricity where students learned about current, and how circuits work. We completed the study with each student "inventing" their own flashlight using a "D" battery, light bulb, and tissue paper roll. On the high school end, we had three seniors preparing for the GED exam, as well as several students who enrolled in mainstream classes in Business, Mathematics, and Technology. We recently began a novel of our own, and look forward to learning and applying skills in reading comprehension and writing through this venue. The high school students also learned about and utilized emerging technology through a class set of iPod Touches with which skills in math were reinforced and practiced through related applications. In keeping with our belief in experiential learning, we embarked on two field trips in the past few months - The Rochester International Airport, and Pizzeria Uno where we learned "behind the scenes" about the restaurant business. Future field trips include Channel 8 in Rochester, where we will see the inner workings of a television studio, and learn about the jobs therein.  Another important component of our year is our community service piece. The past two years, we have volunteered at Gleaner's Kitchen in Canandaigua and rang the bell for the Salvation Army Kettle Drive over the Christmas holiday. As always, we are grateful for all the support we receive from our faculty and staff, as well as Pupil Personnel Director Jen Singer. We appreciate all that you do to help us provide unique learning experiences for our students.
