My name is Jim Helling and with the exception of one year spent in North Carolina, I have lived in the Honeoye Central School District for my entire life. I am a 1990 graduate of Honeoye Central, and my wife, Christy, is a 1992 graduate. My oldest daughter, Kenzie, is a 2017 graduate of Honeoye, and our youngest daughter, Emma, is currently a senior at HCS.
After graduating from Honeoye, I received my associates degree in Business Administration, and continued my education, receiving my certification in Electrical Trades from Wayne/Finger Lakes BOCES adult education. I have owned and operated Helling Electric since 2002, and was formerly the owner/founder of the Honeoye Valley Redemption Center until selling the business to pursue other opportunities.
I believe I have been a dedicated member of our community in the past as I have proudly:
-Coached t-ball, minor’s baseball, 10U and 12U travel softball, as well as coached girls travel soccer at the U11 level
-Volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity build here in Honeoye
-Held over 50 bottle and can fundraisers while owner of the Honeoye Valley Redemption Center, including fundraisers for medical equipment, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, music programs at school, as well as for various HCS sports teams.
Over the years I have spent in the community, I feel I have developed a good relationship with many of the families that I would serve while being on the board, many who feel that they are never able to get answers to their questions/concerns. I have also known many of the staff at HCS for many years prior to having children in the district, and have grown to know and develop a good rapport with those I have met along the way. I am hoping to be a productive and vocal member of the HCS School Board, being a contact point for students/families in the district, as well as someone who is not afraid to ask questions or voice my opinion when others may not be willing to do so.
Creating an atmosphere that our staff is not only proud of, but also enjoys being a part of on a day to day basis, as well as creating an atmosphere where students are happy to come to school and their families feel they have a voice, is what I hope to be a part of implementing should you elect me to your school board.  Thank you.
