District Emergency Response Plan

Education Law § 2801-a requires school districts to develop, and annually review, district-wide and school building safety plans.

Education Law requires that district-wide safety plans be developed by the district-wide school safety team, which must be appointed by the Board of Education. The Safety Team must include members from the following groups: school board, teachers, administrators, parent organizations, school safety personnel, and other school personnel.

Desha’s Law- Cardiac Arrest Emergency Response Plans
Amendments to Education Law §2801-a(3)(a) require that policies and procedures for response to
sudden cardiac arrest be included in building level emergency response plans, effective
September 1, 2025.Amendments to Education Law §§ 917 and 2801-a (2) regarding AED
equipment, AED maintenance and signage, and school safety training regarding cardiac emergency
response plans in district-wide school safety plans are effective January 20, 2026.In September 2020, the New York State Legislature revised Education Law § 2801-a, requiring that district-wide safety plans incorporate, “protocols for responding to a declared public health emergency involving communicable diseases that are substantially equivalent with the provisions of [Labor Law § 27-c].”
