COVID-19 Update

Greetings,

As of this writing, there remains to be no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario County.  An indication of community spread in the region would be important in the determination of whether our district would need to be closed.  We will continue to consult and heed guidance from the Ontario County Health Department, the Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and our State Education Department as they are the best advisors on the potential impact of COVID-19 in our region and in making a determination surrounding closing.  At this juncture, Honeoye Central School District remains open

On Friday, 3/13/2020, the CSOs from across the Wayne Finger Lakes Region assembled to discuss and collaborate surrounding the Governor's New Mass Gathering Regulations. The Centers for Disease Control defines social distancing as keeping safe distances from others (six feet or more) and avoiding mass gatherings or other large group settings. Social distancing is used to reduce the risk associated in large group environments. Currently, attendance of students during the school day is not impacted by the Mass Gathering Regulation.

Under the direction of County Health, the Governor’s New Mass Gathering Regulations, regional leadership, and out of an abundance of caution, the Honeoye Central School District will enact social distancing measures to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) beginning Monday, 3/16/2020 until further notice.

As a result, the following events are cancelled / postponed for the Honeoye Central School District:

  • 3/17/2020: Middle School Band Concert @Auditorium 7:00:00 PM
    • Note: Our vocal and instrumental teaching staff are exploring options for "audienceless" performances during 9th period(s) which may be streamed for staff, families and the community.
  • 3/20/2020: Family Dance @Cafeteria 6:30:00 PM
    • Note: This event may / may not be rescheduled to a later date. More information from event coordinator to follow.
  • 3/24/2020: 40th Annual Senior High Band Scholarship Concert @Auditorium 7:00:00 P
    • Note: This event may / may not be rescheduled to a later date. More information from event coordinator to follow.
  • 3/31/2020: NYSSMA Major Organization Festival @Honeoye Auditorium 8:00:00 AM
    • Note: This event may / may not be rescheduled to a later date. More information from event coordinator to follow.

 Additionally:

  • All overnight trips are cancelled.
  • All field trips will be reviewed to determine if they should be cancelled or postponed due to the guidance we have been given based on social distancing and large group gatherings.
  • All scheduled athletic competitions may proceed with no spectators in attendance.
  • Community groups utilizing our facilities will be required to adhere to social distancing provisions.

Please note, while we have pandemic plans at the federal, state, and local level, this is predominantly unchartered territory.  As a district we are following the directions of our health agency leaders, but as with anything that is new and different, there is a lot to learn.  We will know much better how to react to something like this in the future, but are working to make the best decisions we can at this time with limited information.

Please continue to follow the preventative steps for limiting the spread of the Coronavirus, or any communicable illness for that matter, by having students stay home if they are exhibiting symptoms, practicing thorough hand washing, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

The District will continue to actively monitor the progression of the Coronavirus and follow the guidance of the Ontario County Department of Public Health. The health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff continue to be our focus. I thank you for your support and patience as we continue to navigate this evolving situation.

Best,

Bridget Ashton
