ATTN HCS STUDENTS: What was the distance learning experience like for our secondary students?

Dear HCS Students and Families,

This message serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, we are seeking feedback from our STUDENTS on their experience during remote instruction, and encourage students to access the survey and submit by June 16th via this link: https://forms.gle/DQt7YE1GTJQBcCecA . Students will need to access this form via their HCS accounts.

Next, I would like to repeat information about final grading that was shared in recent communication from Superintendent Ashton.  We have been in communication with the New York State Education Department as well as school leaders within the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES region surrounding the reporting of final grading. The Honeoye Central School District is utilizing Pass/Fail based on the Distance Learning Rubric (4,3,2 =Pass) for Quarter 4, and an overall Pass/Fail for each course based on progress up to the start of the extended closing and further demonstration of proficiency and well and engagement in remediation through distance learning. We will continue to have access to percentage grades from Quarters 1-3 as a reference for calculating GPA and the like as our students progress through their high school career. We believe that this choice is in the best interest of all HCS students.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to remind students and parents that on Wednesday, 6/17 and Thursday, 6/18 we will be collecting back devices, textbooks and novels, graphing calculators, cameras, and other school-owned materials. Specific details for that event are forthcoming.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Addie Klaehn
Secondary Principal
