Update on Athletics and School Lunches

Good Afternoon,

On behalf of the entirety of the Honeoye Central School District, many thanks for a wonderful first week.  Welcoming our students back on campus has been a source of absolute joy! It is so rewarding to see teaching and learning launched for the 2020-21 school year. Whether learning has occurred "in person" or "remotely," our students are engaging with the Bulldog SPIRIT that is trademark of the POUND!

I have a few updates for you as we close week one:

Daily Screenings
Our Instructional Technology Director, Nicki Klingensmith, pushed out the registration information for Parent Square (Daily Health Screening platform) on Tuesday, 9/8.  If you have not yet had the opportunity to register, please visit the Parent Square COVID Screening link in this email or on our website at your soonest convenience.  If you have questions about Parent Square, do not hesitate to reach out directly to Nicki Klingensmith at [email protected]. Thank you for your patience regarding the coordination of Parent Square at HCS.

High School Athletics
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) released an Updated Return to Interscholastic Athletics Resource Document on Friday, 9/11, outlining requirements for low and moderate sports to resume on September 21. To learn more about the how HCS will approach athletics this fall, please access the 2020 Virtual Athletic Presentation for Athletes, Parents & Coaches provided by HCS Athletic Director, Lorri Campbell.

If your child is interested in participating in soccer, cross country or golf this fall, please be certain to register your child online this week, as practices begin 9/21.

Meal Service for All Students, Information Provided by Mike Bastian and Sheila Lowe
We are pleased to announce that the U.S. Federal Government has extended the option for U.S. public schools to provide free breakfast and lunch meals to all enrolled students throughout the fall of 2020.  Please note that our ability to extend this offer is dependent upon funding from NY State and that we expect a confimation from the state very soon.

As a result, we are pleased to announce that effective immediately, any and all HCS students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch meals.  This is true for students attending school in person every day (grades PK-5), students in school every other day (grades 6-12 hybrid cohort model) and those students learning remotely from home 100% of the time.  Again, this offer will be available as long as NY State honors and funds the federal program.

To help us plan for the possibility of a significant increase in the number of students receiving school meals on a daily basis, please click here to access and complete a GoogleForm to indicate your interest in free daily meals for your child.  Please answer all questions completely to help us process your request in a timely manner.  Your support in helping us plan for increased meal production is greatly appreciated.

As we await word from the state, we also want parents to know that no HCS student has had meal charges entered against their account this first week of school.  If your child has turned money into the cafeteria this week, this money has remained in their account.  If your child requests breakfast or lunch starting the week of September 14th, they will NOT need to pay for their meal.  Again, there is no need for ANY parent to send their child to school with lunch money starting Monday, September 14th. Feel free to contact HCS Kitchen Manager, Sheila Lowe, and/or School Business Administrator, Michael Bastian, with questions or to request an individual contact by emailing: [email protected].

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support of our district. As always, if you have any questions about the information in this email, or otherwise, please feel free to reach out to me.

Warmest Regards,
E. Bridget Ashton
