Town Halls Scheduled and a "Green Light" for Winter Athletics

Greetings,

The blue skies and sunshine were a welcome addition to this weekend... Hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable few days!

"Green Light" on Winter Athletics
Governor Cuomo made a special announcement on high risk sports, ultimately affording decision making surrounding high risk sports to the local public health departments. On Friday afternoon, the NYSDOH released updated Interim Guidance for Sports and Recreation During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
  • “Effective February 1, 2021, participants in higher risk sports and recreation activities may partake in individual or distanced group training and organized no/low-contact group training and, further, may partake in other types of play, including competitions and tournaments, only as permitted by the respective local health authorities (i.e., county health departments).”
In response, local health departments are coordinating efforts and plan to meet early this week. In the interim of further guidance, the following was released to all component school districts:
  • "As a region, the local health departments of the Finger Lakes (including Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, Livingston, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming, Seneca and Yates counties) are in support of re-opening high-risk sports but want to make sure it’s done safely and uniformly.  As a region, we will be discussing and drafting additional guidance with our school partners to ensure a consistent, regional approach.  We are planning to provide that guidance early next week."
This is certainly wonderful news for all student athletes!  We anticipate having more information to share with you by mid week and Athletic Director, Lorri Campbell, will share logistics surrounding coordination of winter sports.

Town Halls Scheduled
Back in September, HCS offered Town Hall Meetings with the explicit purpose of checking in with our families and students to ascertain how things were going within our mixed hybrid model of reopening. At that time, it was decided we would offer additional opportunities for families to participate in Town Hall meetings at the completion of each marking period. Difficult to imagine, but we are quickly approaching the end of the second marking period! As such, HCS invites you to consider participation in Town Halls on the following dates and times below:
  • 1/28 6:00 - 7:00 ~ Progress Monitoring the HCS Plan: How are things going at elementary level?
    • Google Meet access information shared via Parent Square communication on 1/24.
  • 1/28 7:00 - 8:00 ~ Progress Monitoring the HCS Plan: How are things going at secondary level?
    • Google Meet access information shared via Parent Square communication on 1/24.
FLTCC Toggles to Remote Learning for 1/25/2021
All of FLTCC has shifted to a model of remote learning for Monday, 1/25/2021. As such, all HCS students who participate in FLTCC programming should plan on participating within a remote model of learning for FLTCC programming and HCS courses on Monday, 1/25/2021. We anticipate further updates on Monday from Ontario County DOH following contact tracing surrounding quarantine and return to in person instruction and will communicate more information as it becomes available.
