HCS Response to CDC Announcement Around Masking

Good Morning,

As you are likely aware, the CDC announced yesterday that masks are no longer required for vaccinated individuals, either indoors or outdoors. This is a significant shift and a sign that we may be approaching a greater state of normalcy. Please note that in the same guidance, the CDC also recommended continued adherence to local health guidance.

As a public school district, we are required to adhere to New York State regulations.  Governor Cuomo responded to the CDC announcement yesterday indicating that "New York state's mask mandate will remain in effect as state health officials review new federal guidance to allow vaccinated people to ditch face coverings under most conditions."  Until the NYSDOH guidance changes, we must still require masks in all school facilities, including for fully-vaccinated students, faculty, staff members, and visitors. I have reached out to our local DOH to inquire about whether we may anticipate updated guidance from NYS soon and will share updates with our community as information becomes available. Thank you for your continued support and adherence to our NYSDOH guidance in the interest of the health and safety of the HCS learning community.

On behalf of the Honeoye Central School District, many thanks to our community for the ongoing support and partnership in advocacy for all HCS students. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns about the information included in this communication, or otherwise.

Warmest regards,
E. Bridget Ashton
