Special Election Scheduled for 12/6/2022

A special election of a board of education member will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Honeoye Central School District Special Election Notice
One (1) vacancy for the Honeoye Central School District Board of Education is to be filled at a Special Election of a Board Member on December 6, 2022. There is one (1) unexpired term to be filled. The term will commence on December 7, 2022 and expire on June 30, 2025.  The candidate who receives a plurality of the votes cast respectively for the unexpired term shall be declared elected.

Service as a school board member is an important civic responsibility, encapsulating oversight of the education of the youth in our community.  School boards are comprised of volunteers from within the community who are willing and able to dedicate their time to bettering public education.  During this period of time, there has never been a greater need to secure school board members who are committed to confronting challenges and working collaboratively to ensure optimal opportunities for student outcomes.

Procedure for Filing a Petition
  • Petition forms may be obtained Monday through Friday at the District Office, located at 8528 Main Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and are available on the Honeoye Central School Website.
  • Candidates for the position of member of the Board of Education must file a petition with the Clerk of the School District signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District or by two percent (2%) of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election, whichever is greater. 
  • The petitions for nomination of candidates for the December 6, 2022, special election must bear the signatures of at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district. Such petition shall state the name and the residence of the candidate, and the name and residence of each signer.
  • Petitions for nominating candidates for the Board of Education must be completed and filed with the District Clerk no later than 5 pm, Monday, November 7, 2022.

Procedure for Election Expenditure Filing
  • If a school board candidate’s campaign expenditures exceed $500, the candidate must file a sworn statement with both  the district clerk and the commissioner of education itemizing their expenditures. This statement must list the amounts of all money or other valuable things paid, given, expended or promised by the candidate, or incurred for or on the candidate’s behalf with his or her approval.
  • A candidate who spends $500 or less is only required to file a sworn statement with the district clerk indicating this to be the case. No other campaign expenditure statement is required.
