Save the Date: "See Something, Say Something" Presentation

School safety is paramount to the work of our organization. We know that each and every child who comes through our doors each morning is a parent/guardian's most important someone. Knowing this, we are committed to the review and development of enhanced safety protocols and procedures. The district has invited and welcomed safety and security experts to HCS this year who have provided a critical lens around campus safety:

  • Risk Management Specialist - Christina Burnett
  • FBI Agent and Director of OpOverwatch - David Budz
  • Coordinator of Security at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES - John Kelly
  • FBI Special Agent / Threat Management Coordinator - Katey Tonzelli
  • Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines - Navigate 360
As a result of our ongoing work with these individuals, HCS has identified and is taking action steps to enhance campus safety and/or navigation of the campus by first responders. We continue to work through action steps associated with threat assessment and the development of a Behavior Intervention Team (BIT). The BIT concept is modeled after the CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) approach utilized by law enforcement to best identify potentially violent individuals and to develop targeted, intensive supports. The district is also exploring research based, best practices associated with threat assessment protocols.

Early Detection of Potentially Violent Behaviors

Paying attention to early warning signs can help prevent or minimize the likelihood of a violent incident in our community.  There are certain emotional and behavioral signs, when viewed in context, which may signal a troubled individual.  Parents, students and community members share the responsibility for monitoring and recognizing the signs that can be used to signal if an individual may be in need of assistance.  Representatives from RocTac (Rochester Threat Advisory Committee) and FBI Agent Tonzelli will be here to present a "See Something, Say Something" community forum for families, community members and secondary students on February 7 from 6:30 - 8:00PM in the auditorium.  RocTac will present information for approximately an hour and take questions from attendees as time permits.
