High Marks for Honeoye Students in Waste Assessment The Ecology Club at Honeoye Elementary School is full of enthusiastic participants and on May 20, that eagerness was put to the test and our Bulldogs delivered impressive results! Impact Earth, a Rochester-based Zero Waste education organization, visited the district to assess district practices related to waste specific to the cafeteria and kitchen. Doug Carney of Impact Earth came to the district to meet with members of the Ecology Club, advised by Ms. Braun, and his report pointed out the energy of Honeoye students. “Doug found this district to be particularly enthusiastic and already thinking about and working toward waste reduction, sustainability and education for their students within sustainability and environmental consciousness,” reads the report. He goes on to state, “It is worth noting that this waste assessment had more active student participation than any other district in the history of our business, which was definitely awesome to see, particularly that it came from a relatively smaller district.” The report offered suggestions to how the district can be even better with its practices, including collaboration with local farmers to create compost solutions. Superintendent Natalie Pfluke is proud of the work from Honeoye students and fully supports their hard work and dedication. “I’m so proud to see our young students take the lead on initiatives like this that will help create a cleaner and more sustainable future,” she said. “Thank you to Ms. Braun for her guidance. I’m excited to see all that our students will accomplish in the years ahead."
