Qualified Voters
Only qualified voters of the district may vote on propositions brought before an annual meeting and election or school district special meeting (vote).

To vote in an annual meeting and election or school district special meeting (vote), a voter does not need to be a registered voter to satisfy the legal definition of "qualified voter." Per NYS Educational Law, qualified voters must be:
  • A citizen of the United States,
  • At least 18 years old,
  • A resident of the district for at least 30 days prior to the vote, and
  • An individual who is not otherwise prohibited from voting under the provisions of section 5-106 of the Election Law (for example a person ruled mentally incompetent).

Note:
  • Eligible voters are not required to pay taxes (need not own property within the district in which they reside).
  • Eligible voters do not have to have children attending the public school.
