Honeoye Central School District- Internet-Enabled Device Plan

Creating a Safe, Focused, and Distraction-Free Learning Environment

📚 New Policy: Student Use of Internet-Enabled Devices

In alignment with the New York State Distraction-Free Schools Law, Honeoye CSD is committed to maintaining a focused, respectful, and safe school environment. To support this, personal internet-enabled devices will not be allowed during the school day for students in grades K-12.

🚫 What’s Not Allowed During the School Day?

Personal internet-enabled devices, including but not limited to:

  • Cell phones

  • Smart watches

  • Earbuds

  • Tablets

  • Gaming devices

These must be turned off and stored in a school-designated location from the first bell to the last bell.

This policy does not apply to school-issued devices used for learning.

🕒 When Is Device Use Allowed?

 ✅ After school dismissal
✅ With explicit permission from school staff
✅ On field trips or events—at staff discretion
✅ Before or after the school day

📌 What Parents & Guardians Can Do:

✔️ Review this policy with your child before school starts
✔️ Use the school office to contact your child during the day
✔️ Pick up a confiscated device if you're notified
✔️ Encourage device-free learning at home and at school
