Honeoye Central School District does a lot of things well but the summer edition of Community Health magazine, a publication of Finger Lakes Area School Health Plan, confirms just how well wellness is done for staff and faculty.
The issue, which is dedicated to the “Power of Play” and features how area school districts are making time to “embrace health fun,” features Honeoye Superintendent Natalie Pfluke on page 4. In a letter to readers, Mrs. Pfluke explains how the Wellness Program at Honeoye, under the direction of Lorri Campbell is not just a suggestion. It’s a priority.
“Every hallway, classroom and gathering space is a chance to model what it looks like to prioritize mental, physical and emotional health. We don’t always get it perfect, but we strive to be visible and authentic in our efforts.”
On pages 16-17, an article with photos featured the March day in which Honeoye staff participated in its Afternoon of Wellness. In addition to lunch, staff had the opportunity to lead breakout sessions in the afternoon that included Zumba, jewelry making, badminton, table tennis, karaoke and self-defense instruction with local law enforcement.
And under the "Healthy Happenings" section that features additional wellness activities in area districts, the "Play With Clay" activity for Honeoye staff is featured.
“By empowering faculty and staff to lead and participate in wellness experiences, we’re reinforcing a message that wellness matters every day. Not just for adults, but for the students who watch and learn from us,” said Campbell, who teaches business education in the district.
This is why Wellness is a priority at Honeoye. Because as Campbell said in the article: “Every investment we make in our people is ultimately an investment in our kids.”
