Honeoye senior Payton Slade was recognized among the region’s most outstanding students as the recipient of the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Superintendent Award during a ceremony at the W-FL BOCES Conference Center in Newark earlier this month.

Slade was one of 25 students in the W-FL region to be honored, which requires a GPA of 80 or higher at the end of their junior year. Award winners must also demonstrate qualities such as compassion, perseverance, responsibility and kindness. Honeoye district officials selected Slade as this year’s recipient.

In addition to the W-FL Superintendent Award, Slade also was named recipient of the Weller Financial Group scholarship of $1,000. She was selected based on an essay she wrote that was entered into competition with the other Superintendent Award recipients.

In her essay, Slade wrote that “treating others with constant kindness and respect and standing by my values is what it takes to have a strong foundation for my leadership abilities.”

Honeoye superintendent Natalie Pfluke said the district was proud to be at the ceremony with other Honeoye administration to see Slade honored for her work.

“Payton’s written submission was one of just seven selected to receive a scholarship out of 25 applicants!” said Pfluke. “Payton was celebrated along with the other award recipients at the recognition dinner held on March 5 at the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Conference Center. We are incredibly proud of Payton for representing our school and community so well!”

Slade is involved with the cheer team at Honeoye and is active with the French Club, Student Council and National Honor Society. She also is an active rodeo competitor and plans to attend Alfred State to study Radiologic Technology in the fall.
