Academic Status

At Honeoye Central School we believe that all students can achieve. We affirm that student success and achievement is important and needs to be every student’s top priority. We also believe that while education is an entitlement, privileges are earned after successful completion of responsibilities and expectations. We believe it is the school’s responsibility to provide supports for students to achieve academic goals and the student’s responsibility to utilize these supports to achieve success.

Based on this philosophy, we maintain an academic eligibility program that provides:

Recognition for students on Academic Honor Rolls.
Privileges for students on Good Academic Standing.
Supports for students on Academic Support.
Supports and consequences for students on Academic Ineligibility.

Academic Ineligibility	Failing 2 or more subjects for more than 2 weeks.	Required attendance in study halls. *Note: Any student who is behind in science labs may be placed on academic ineligibility regardless of the number of failing courses without being placed on academic support at Principal discretion to insure that students meet this important graduation requirement.

ACADEMIC STATUS PROCEDURES

Students and parents will be alerted to academic concerns that could lead to academic support and/or ineligibility beginning with the third week of school and at every five-week interval between report card mailings.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

In order for students on Academic Support to move to Good Academic Standing they must:

MS students - Attend Academic Support Classes when the Academic Status period begins.
HS students - Meet with teachers of subjects failing to obtain a Self-Improvement Plan and to find out what needs to be done to improve grades to passing. This may include:

~ Staying after school with teacher• attending Academic Support Class • seeking help during study halls and/or lunches
~ Attend all scheduled Study Halls/Guided Study Halls with no passes to be released.
~ Once a HS student is on Academic Support, s/he will remain on this list from Friday to Friday (one week).

No exceptions.

~ They must complete and submit a Self-Improvement Plan by Thursday noon.

~ Each week, students have the opportunity to move to Good Academic Standing if passing all classes.

ACADEMIC INELIGIBILITY

In order for students on Academic Ineligibility to move to Academic Support or Good Avademic Standing they must:

Attend Academic Support Classes when the Academic Status period begins.
Meet with teachers of subjects failing to obtain a Self-Improvement Plan and to find out what needs to be done to improve grades to passing. This may include:

~ Staying after school with teacher• attending Academic Support Class • seeking help during study halls and/or lunches
~ Attend all scheduled Study Halls with no passes to be released.

Once a student is on Academic Ineligibility, they will remain on this list from Friday to Friday (one week). No exceptions.
They must complete and submit a Self-Improvement Plan to Academic Support Advisor by noon Thursday.

Each week, students have the opportunity to move to Academic Support if passing all but 1 class.
Each week, students have the opportunity to move to Good Academic Standing if passing all classes.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

The district has the following academic support services available:

Counseling programs by the Honeoye Central School and county personnel

Additional help in course work (after school, study halls, etc)

Academic Support Center (scheduled during the school day)

Academic Support Class (scheduled after school)

Academic Intervention Services/RemediationReferral for community resources

Referral for Section 504 accommodations

Referral for Committee on Special Education placement

Students on Academic Ineligibility have all privileges suspended while on Academic Ineligibility.
